I began this picture of my mother from life and finished it from photographs. It has had a wonderful history, winning Best in Show in the Lake Country Pastel Society show in Minnesota, the Pastel Society of America Board of Directors Award at their juried show in New York City, and finally was featured in The Pastel Journal (April, 2005) as the winner of the Art Spirit Foundation/Dianne B. Bernard Gold Medal Award for Excellence in the magazine’s Pastel 100 competition for 2004.
